Mouftah El Chark isn't just a shop, it's an industry inspired by traditions and a cultural background thousands of years old. Therefore, we created this page to introduce you in a first step to remarkable landmarks of our history and reveal some information about our ancestors that probably not everyone knows. By ancestors we mean first and foremost, the Phoenicians.

Phoenicia, as it's widely known, is a perennial civilization that developed on the shores of the actual Lebanon. The world owes to them, among other things, the invention of letters, the discovery of glass and of the dying procedures that gave colors to people's clothes. Most beautiful of all was the magnificent purple color discovered for the first time in Murex shells on our shores.

The daring sailors of the great Phoenician ships conquested the entire known world in the most peaceful and civilized way. They even got to the southern end of Africa, and wherever they went they established good relationships with the natives.

Yet, what many still don't know about the Phoenicians is that they preceded Christopher Columbus by many a year in reaching the Americas. In fact, tablets with the Phoenician alphabet engraved on them were found in the mountainous areas of Peru.

The Phoenicians were great traders and they spread their knowledge, artifacts and goods to the whole world. The Lebanese have always tried to follow the path of their ancestors and they're still known today for their special trading skills, the quality of their products and their incessant search for originality. We at Mouftah El Chark tried hard to come out with reproductions of Phoenician statues and artifacts, astounding in their similarity to the originals. Our Abayas are as colored, smart and original as can be, and all our other items reflect the spirit of traditions.

No matter how long we stray from our history, we always come back seeking our roots. And what if these roots are filled with nothing but sheer beauty and mere delights. The Phoenician civilization will always shine forth knowledge and beauty as well as render many a person flabbergast in front of such majesty! Phoenicia can be called the mother of all civilizations… even Europe was a Phoenician princess!
